That reframes which specification matters. A flush mount is judged on how many lumens it puts into a room. A track head is judged on where it can put them - which means beam angle, aiming range, and how many heads a rail carries.

It also explains why track suits some rooms unusually well. A room with an awkward shape, a sloped ceiling, artwork on one wall, or a work surface that is not under the ceiling box - all of those are aiming problems, and track is the fixture that solves aiming problems. Do not aim it all at one thing. The instinct with four aimable heads is to point them all at the feature wall, which produces a gallery wall and a dark room. Split them: two washing a wall, one on a work area, one filling the space.

Keep heads out of your sight line. A track head aimed back toward where people sit is a small bright object at eye level. Aim across a room or down at surfaces, not at faces.

Wall washing wants distance. A head placed too close to a wall produces a scalloped pool with hard edges. Roughly two to three feet out from the wall, aimed at it, gives an even wash.

Replace the supplied bulbs. Complete kits ship with the cheapest acceptable bulbs, usually cool white with no published CRI. Since GU10 is a standard base, upgrading them is a bulb purchase - and it is where nearly all the improvement in a track installation lives.

Check the wattage rating, then ignore the number. Track heads are commonly rated to 50W maximum, which was written for halogen. An LED producing the same light draws a fraction of that, so you can go far brighter than the rating implies while staying well inside it.
