01
Independence
- No paid placement. No brand has paid to appear on this site and none can. There is no mechanism for it.
- Commission rate never decides a pick. Where a retailer that pays us less is better for the buyer - cheaper, in stock, better warranty - that is the link we build.
- No free products. We accept none, which is straightforward given we do not test products.
- No sponsored content, ever. Nothing on this site is written to a brief supplied by a manufacturer.
- No affiliate program we have not joined is ever linked as though we had. Every earning link is disclosed as one.
How the site is funded, in plain English, is on affiliate disclosure.
02
Sourcing standards
- Every specification cites its source - the manufacturer page, product manual or retailer listing - with the date retrieved, printed on the pick itself rather than buried.
- Every standard is named rather than paraphrased into anonymity. "Published illuminance guidance" is not a citation; the source we used is linked at the foot of the page.
- Every price is live and date-stamped. No price is typed into body copy. Where the live figure is more than 48 hours old it disappears and the page says "check price" instead.
- Unpublished data is labeled "Not published." Never estimated, never substituted. The omission is itself informative.
- Our arithmetic is shown, not asserted. Any claim of the form "a room this size needs N lumens" comes with the inputs and the operation.
- No other publisher's findings are restated as ours. Where someone else's work is genuinely useful, it is attributed and linked.
03
What we never publish
- Testing claims. We have no lab and no test units. No "in our testing", no hours-spent figures, no product counts implying possession.
- Credentials we do not hold. No certifications, no trade qualifications, no expert panel, no editorial team of people who do not exist.
- Tenure claims. No "long-time", no "veteran", no year counts. The author is described by genuine interest, which is true and does not decay.
- Reviews or testimonials we did not receive. This site carries no testimonials section at all, because there are no real ones to publish and inventing them would be fabrication.
- Ratings we cannot substantiate. We do not test products, therefore we do not score them, therefore no rating markup is emitted in our structured data.
- Urgency or scarcity language. No countdowns, no "limited time", no manufactured pressure. It would be false here and it contradicts everything else on the site.
04
Update cadence
| Cadence | What happens |
|---|---|
| Daily, automated | Price refresh across every pick. Figures older than 48 hours are withdrawn rather than shown. |
| Monthly | Availability sweep. Discontinued picks are replaced, not left in place. |
| Quarterly | Specifications re-verified against current manufacturer documentation. |
| Annually | Rewrite pass on the main roundups; cited rates and figures refreshed. |
Every content page shows a visible last verified date reflecting the most recent of these. Sitemap dates come from real document dates rather than the build timestamp, so a claim that a page changed means it changed.

Corrections
If something here is wrong, we want to know. Specifications change, products get revised, and we make mistakes like anyone else.
Write to info@sconceandsocket.com or use the contact form. Our commitment:
- Acknowledged within two working days.
- Corrected within five working days of us confirming the error.
- A dated correction note stays on the page. We do not edit quietly - if a figure was wrong for a period, the page says so.
- Where a pick changes as a result, the page explains why rather than silently swapping the product.
Publishing a method only means anything if we act when someone uses it to catch us out.
