Specifications are the manufacturer or retailer published figures, compiled by hand. We have not measured them, and where a figure is not published we write "Not published" rather than guess.
01
The difference, room by room
3000K and 4000K sit either side of an important line. 3000K is still a warm white - slightly crisper than the 2700K of a table lamp, but recognizably warm. 4000K is a neutral white, with no yellow in it and no blue either.
Feit Electric's published guidance treats them as neighbors rather than rivals: it gives 3000K to 4000K as the ideal range for both kitchens and bathrooms, puts 4000K in garages, laundry rooms and workshops, and keeps soft white for bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms.
| 3000K | 4000K | |
|---|---|---|
| How it looks | Soft, warm white | Neutral, crisp white |
| Kitchen | Good - blends with warm living space | Good - clearest for prep |
| Bathroom | Good - softer, closer to the rest of the house | Good - clear for grooming |
| Garage, laundry, workshop | Acceptable | Better - Feit names these for 4000K |
| Bedroom, living room | Better | Too cool for most people |
| High-CRI example | YUJILEDS BR30, 1,200 lm, CRI 95+ | Waveform CENTRIC A19, 800 lm, CRI 95+ |

Bulbs that publish both numbers
YUJILEDS CRI-MAX BR30 - the best 3000K for recessed cans. 1,200 lumens at 3000K with CRI 95+ and R9 up to 95+ - high output without trading away color accuracy.
Cons: dimming behavior not published; 16W runs warmer than a standard BR30.
Waveform Lighting CENTRIC DAYLIGHT A19 - a 4000K bulb with real numbers. 800 lumens at 4000K with CRI 95+ and R9 80+, flicker-free. Most 4000K bulbs publish nothing about color quality; this one publishes it all.
Cons: not dimmable; not for enclosed fixtures.
Waveform 95 CRI BR30 - a dimmable 3000K for cans. 800 lumens at CRI 95+ with R9 above 80, in 2700K or 3000K, dimmable - the choice when the cans are on a dimmer.
Cons: standard rather than high output.
Enbrighten 18 in. plug-in bar - to see the difference on your own counter. 1,245 lumens at CRI 92 with five white settings from 2700K to 6500K. Under a cabinet it lets you compare warm and neutral light where you actually work, before committing a ceiling to either.
Cons: 18 inches covers one work zone.
03
Choosing between them
Match what you can see at once. In an open-plan space, the kitchen should not be 4000K if the living area beside it is 2700K. Choose 3000K so the two read as one room - see open-plan lighting.
Use 4000K where the room is for work. A garage, laundry room or a kitchen used mostly for cooking benefits from neutral light. For the cooler step beyond, see best daylight LED bulbs.
Insist on high CRI at either temperature. A poor-CRI 4000K bulb looks flat and gray. The case is in best high-CRI LED bulbs.
Try before you commit. A plug-in bar or a tunable bulb lets you see both on your own counter. The warmer comparison is in 2700K vs 3000K.

01
High output and high color accuracy at the same time
YUJILEDS CRI-MAX CRI 95+ 16W BR30 LED Bulb, 3000K
#ad No live price right now, so we show none. How we earn
1,200 lumens at CRI 95+ with R9 up to 95+ - the only combination here that refuses to trade brightness against color quality.
| Lumens | 1,200 lm |
|---|---|
| Color temperature | 3000K |
| CRI | 95+ (R9 up to 95+) |
| Power source | Screws into a standard E26 socket (16W) |
| Dimmable | Not published |
| Renter-safe method | A bulb swap. Nothing fixed, nothing to make good. |
What it gets right
- 1,200 lumens at CRI 95+ - most high-CRI bulbs stop at 800
- R9 up to 95+, published, the strongest figure we found
- 180-degree beam spreads rather than spotlights
What it costs you
- Specialist pricing
- Dimming behavior is not published
- 16W runs warmer than a standard BR30 - not for a tight enclosed can

02
Neutral white with genuinely accurate color
Waveform Lighting CENTRIC DAYLIGHT Full Spectrum A19, 4000K (4005C.40)
#ad No live price right now, so we show none. How we earn
800 lumens at 4000K with CRI 95+ and R9 80+, flicker-free - the rare 4000K bulb that publishes the numbers, though it is not dimmable or enclosed-rated.
| Lumens | 800 lm |
|---|---|
| Color temperature | 4000K |
| CRI | 95+ (R9 80+) |
| Power source | Screws into a standard E26 socket (10W) |
| Dimmable | No |
| Renter-safe method | A bulb swap. Fully reversible. |
What it gets right
- CRI 95+ with R9 80+ published at 4000K
- Flicker-free
- 25,000 hour rated life
What it costs you
- Not dimmable
- Not suitable for enclosed fixtures
- Sold by a specialist brand

03
Recessed cans where color accuracy is the whole point
Waveform Lighting Ultra High 95 CRI BR30 LED Bulb
#ad No live price right now, so we show none. How we earn
800 lumens from 10.5W at CRI 95+ with R9 above 80 - and Waveform publishes the R9 figure, which is the number almost every other brand quietly omits.
| Lumens | 800 lm |
|---|---|
| Color temperature | 2700K or 3000K |
| CRI | 95+ (R9 80+) |
| Power source | Screws into a standard E26 socket (10.5W) |
| Dimmable | Yes |
| Renter-safe method | A bulb swap in an existing can. Fully reversible. |
What it gets right
- R9 above 80 is published, so deep reds are actually accounted for
- Two warm color temperatures rather than one compromise
- BR30 shape drops straight into standard recessed cans
What it costs you
- Several times the price of a supermarket BR30
- Sold direct rather than through every retailer
- 800 lumens is standard output, not high output

04
Kitchen counters, no wiring, no compromise on color
Enbrighten 18 in. Plug-in Under Cabinet Light Bar (82785-T1)
#ad No live price right now, so we show none. How we earn
1,245 lumens at 92 CRI with five white settings from 2700K to 6500K, on a plug - the rare renter-safe fixture that beats most hardwired ones on light quality.
| Lumens | 1,245 lm |
|---|---|
| Color temperature | 2700K-6500K, five settings |
| CRI | 92 |
| Power source | Plugs in |
| Dimmable | Yes - full range |
| Renter-safe method | Plugs in. Mounts with the supplied adhesive or two screws - adhesive keeps the deposit. |
What it gets right
- 92 CRI, so food and worktops read true rather than gray
- Five color temperatures means you tune it to the room, not the box
- Full-range dimming, not a two-step hi/low
What it costs you
- The cord has to reach an outlet and then be hidden
- 18 inches is longer than some cabinet sections allow
- One more power adapter on a kitchen outlet

FAQ
Questions people actually ask
+Is 3000K or 4000K better for a kitchen?
Either works. Feit Electric's guidance gives 3000K to 4000K as the ideal range for kitchens. Choose 3000K if the kitchen opens onto warm-lit living space, and 4000K if you want the clearest light for prep.
+Is 4000K too bright for a bathroom?
4000K is not brighter - brightness is lumens. It is a cooler color. Feit suggests 3000K to 4000K for bathrooms, so either is within the usual range.
+Where should I use 4000K lights?
Feit Electric describes 4000K as perfect for garages, laundry rooms and workshops, where you need clear visibility for detailed tasks.
+Can I mix 3000K and 4000K in the same room?
Better not. Two color temperatures side by side make both look wrong. Pick one per room, and keep open-plan spaces consistent.
+Does 4000K look blue?
Not usually - it reads as a neutral white. The noticeably blue-white tone arrives around 5000K and above, covered in best daylight LED bulbs.
