The verdict
Buy the Himalayan Glow 5-7 lb lamp with the touch dimmer. The dimmer is the only specification on a salt lamp that changes anything, and most lamps at this price do not have one. If you want the lamp to light a corner rather than a nightstand, the 8-10 inch version comes with a dimmer and spare bulbs.
Let us deal with the claims first, because they are why most people arrive here. There is no good evidence that a salt lamp purifies air, releases useful quantities of negative ions, or does anything for your health. What it does do is produce a very warm, very dim orange glow from an object that looks like a rock, and that is a perfectly good reason to own one.
| Lamp | Size | Dimmer | Power | Bulb | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Himalayan Glow | 5-7 lbs | Touch, on the body | Plugs in | Replaceable | $29.97 |
| Large 8-10 in. | 8-10 in. | Yes, plus spare bulbs | Plugs in | Replaceable, spares included | $43.99 |
| WBM USB | 5-7 lbs | Touch, on the body | USB | LED | $24.99 |
| 7 in. dimmer cord | 7 in. | In-line, on the cord | Plugs in | Replaceable | $29.95 |

The claims, straight
This site's rule is that we do not print a figure we cannot source. The same rule applies to claims.
Air purification. No support. A rock does not filter air, and nothing about warming it makes it start.
Negative ions. The mechanism exists in physics; the quantity does not exist in a bedroom. A few watts of warmth on a salt crystal is not an ionizer, and the lamps are not sold with any measurement attached because there is none to attach.
Sleep and mood. Here there is something real, and it has nothing to do with salt. A very warm, very dim light in the evening is better company than a bright cool one, which is true of any warm dim lamp. If that is what you are after, the salt is the shade and the candle-amber end of the color scale explains the effect you are actually buying.

How these were judged
- The dimmer, and which kind. A touch dimmer on the body beats an in-line cord dimmer for convenience; a cord dimmer is the more reliable mechanism. A lamp with neither is a lamp with one brightness.
- Size band. 5-7 lbs for a nightstand, 8-10 inches for a corner.
- Replaceable bulb. A screw-in bulb makes a failure a dollar problem. A sealed LED makes it a new lamp.
- Power type. USB frees an outlet and costs you brightness, because an LED behind rock is dimmer than the small incandescent these were designed around.
We did not test these; every figure is the listing's own.

The picks
Himalayan Glow, 5-7 lbs, touch dimmer - the pick. The standard size with the control most of the category leaves out, from a seller with a name on it.
Who it is for: a nightstand or a side table, as a warm evening lamp. Who should skip it: anyone in a humid house or an unheated room - the salt will weep.
Cons: no published output figure, and there cannot be one; weight is a range and the shape is whatever the rock was; the health claims around the category are not supported.
Large 8-10 inch lamp with dimmer and spare bulbs - for a corner. Big enough to be a genuine ambient source in a bedroom corner, with spare bulbs in the box - which is the actual running cost of a salt lamp.
Who it is for: a floor-level corner or a sturdy side table. Who should skip it: small tables and homes with children or animals - this is a heavy rock at height.
Cons: heaviest here; more surface to weep; most expensive salt lamp on the page.
WBM USB salt lamp - for a desk. The same rock and touch dimmer running off USB, so it works from a monitor, a power strip or a phone charger.
Who it is for: a desk or shelf with no spare outlet. Who should skip it: anyone who wants the warmest, brightest glow - an LED behind salt is noticeably dimmer than the incandescent version.
Cons: dimmer glow; cable length decides placement; the LED is harder to replace than a screw-in bulb.
7 inch lamp with dimmer cord - the plainest one. An in-line cord dimmer, a classic wood base, a replaceable bulb and nothing else.
Who it is for: a hall table or a nightstand where you want it set once and left. Who should skip it: anyone who will resent reaching for the floor to change the level.
Cons: the dimmer is on the cord, not the lamp; no published output figure; plain base, no finish options.

The one to buy if you want one
Himalayan Glow Salt Lamp with Touch Dimmer Switch, 5-7 lbs
#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. How we earn
A touch dimmer rather than a plain on/off cord, which is the only specification on a salt lamp that changes how it performs as a light.
| Lumens | Not published - the salt decides it |
|---|---|
| Color temperature | Not published; the glow is the salt's color, not the bulb's |
| CRI | Not applicable - the salt filters the light heavily |
| Power source | Plugs in (corded), with a replaceable bulb in a small screw socket |
| Dimmable | Yes - touch dimmer on the body |
| Renter-safe method | A table lamp. Plugs in. Nothing fitted to the home. |
What it gets right
- Touch dimmer, which most salt lamps at this price do not have
- 5-7 lbs is the useful size band - small enough for a nightstand, big enough to glow
- Replaceable bulb, so a failure costs a dollar rather than a lamp
- An established seller in a category full of anonymous listings
What it costs you
- No published lumen or kelvin figure, and there cannot be one - every rock differs
- Salt attracts moisture and will weep in a humid room or an unheated house
- The health claims attached to this category are not supported by evidence; buy it as a lamp
- Weight is a range, not a figure, and the shape is whatever the rock was

Himalayan Salt Lamp 7 Inch Salt Lamp with Dimmer Cord
#ad Price as of October 17, 2026. How we earn

| Dimmable | Yes - in-line dimmer on the cord |

FAQ
Questions people actually ask
+Do Himalayan salt lamps have health benefits?
There is no good evidence that they do. The common claim is that a warm salt rock releases negative ions that clean air or improve mood; a lamp running a few watts is not doing measurable ionization in a room, and the air-purifying claim has no support. Buy one because a warm, very dim orange lamp is pleasant to have on at night - that part is entirely real.
+What should I look for in a salt lamp?
A dimmer, and almost nothing else. Every other variable - weight, shape, color - is decided by the rock. The dimmer is the only engineering decision the maker gets to make, and it is the difference between a lamp that sits at the right level all evening and one that is either on or off.
+What size salt lamp should I buy?
The common 5 to 7 lb lamps are the right size for a nightstand or a side table and are what most of this category sells. An 8 to 10 inch lamp is a corner lamp - noticeably more glow, and a serious object to have on a small table. Smaller than about 5 lbs and you have an ornament rather than a light.
+Why is my salt lamp leaking or wet?
Because salt is hygroscopic - it pulls moisture from the air, and in a humid room or an unheated house it will weep and leave a damp ring. Leaving the lamp on helps, because the warmth keeps the surface dry. This is normal behavior for the material rather than a fault, and it is the main reason a salt lamp is a poor choice for a bathroom.
+What bulb does a salt lamp take?
Most take a small screw-base incandescent of a few watts - the warmth is part of why they are sold with that bulb rather than an LED, since it keeps the salt dry. One lamp here is a USB LED version instead, which runs cool and is dimmer behind the rock. Check which you are buying, because a lamp with a replaceable bulb outlives one with a sealed LED.
+Are salt lamps safe around pets?
Worth thinking about. A cat or dog that licks the lamp is eating salt, and salt in quantity is genuinely bad for them. If you have an animal that licks things, put the lamp somewhere it cannot be reached - which in practice means a shelf, not a side table.
