2200K is further from 2700K than it sounds
The Kelvin scale compresses badly at the warm end. The gap between 2700K and 3000K is 300 Kelvin and most people can only just see it - that comparison has its own page in 2700K vs 3000K. The gap between 2200K and 2700K is 500 Kelvin and nobody misses it.
At 2200K the light is visibly amber rather than warm white. Whites go cream, blues go gray, and the whole room takes on the color of the hour after sunset. That is the entire appeal, and it is also the entire problem: it is a strong, specific effect rather than a slightly warmer version of normal.
There is a second effect that catches people out. Warm, low-saturation light reads as dimmer than a cooler bulb of the same measured output, so a 700 lumen amber bulb feels less capable than a 700 lumen 2700K one. The number on the box is honest; your eye is applying its own discount.

The output and CRI you are trading away
A representative example makes the trade concrete. The EDISHINE 8W vintage Edison bulb publishes 700 lumens at 2200K with CRI 80+, in a standard E26 base, dimmable. That is a genuinely good spec for the category - most vintage-style bulbs publish neither a CRI figure nor an honest lumen figure at all.
Now compare it with a bulb doing the same physical job in the same socket. The Philips Ultra Definition A19 publishes 800 lumens at 2700K with CRI 95. So the Edison bulb costs you roughly an eighth of the output, a large step in color temperature, and fifteen points of CRI - in exchange for a visible filament and an amber tone.
That is a reasonable trade in a fitting where the bulb is the decoration. It is a bad trade anywhere you need to see properly, which is why this page is a guide rather than a roundup: the honest recommendation is one or two of these in the right places, not a house full of them.

Where to put them, and what to check
Put them where the bulb shows. Exposed pendants, cage fixtures, open sconces, a bare socket over a counter. In a shaded fixture the filament is invisible, so you have paid for a look nobody sees and kept every disadvantage.
Dim them. A bare amber filament at full output is a small bright object directly in your field of view, which is the textbook definition of glare. A plug-in dimmer on a corded fitting, or a compatible wall dimmer, turns a harsh point source into the effect you were actually buying.
Check the enclosure. Vintage bulbs turn up in sealed lanterns as often as in open fittings, and 2200K filament bulbs are rarely rated for enclosed use. If the fitting is sealed, either find a version that carries the rating or use an enclosed-rated 2700K bulb and accept a less theatrical look - the reasoning is in best LED bulbs for enclosed fixtures.
Check the base and shape. Vintage bulbs come in ST19, ST58, A19, G25 and several others, in both E26 and E12 bases, and the difference is easy to get wrong online. The shapes are set out in bulb shapes and bases.

Questions people actually ask
+What color temperature are Edison bulbs?
Usually 2000K to 2400K, with 2200K the most common. That is meaningfully warmer than the 2700K soft white most homes use - amber rather than warm white, and close to candlelight in tone.
+Are LED Edison bulbs bright enough to light a room?
On their own, generally not. A typical 2200K filament bulb produces around 700 lumens, and at that color temperature it reads dimmer than the number suggests. Treat them as an accent layer with something else doing the real work.
+Do vintage Edison LED bulbs dim?
Most are sold as dimmable, and dimming matters more here than usual - a bare amber filament at full output is a glare source you look straight into. Check the bulb against your dimmer before buying several.
+Are Edison bulbs bad for color rendering?
