The best GU24 LED bulbs for a twist-lock socket

By Sawyer V. ยท Last verified November 2, 2026

A GU24 socket takes two pins and a quarter turn, and it will not take an ordinary bulb. That narrows the aisle to about a dozen products - and only some of them tell you anything useful.

Specifications are the manufacturer or retailer published figures, compiled by hand. We have not measured them, and where a figure is not published we write "Not published" rather than guess.

01

The short answer

For almost any room in a house, the Feit Electric GU24 is the one to buy: 800 lumens at 2700K, dimmable, rated for enclosed fixtures, and the only bulb in this format we found that publishes a CRI above 80. If you need the light rather than the color quality - a garage, a laundry room, a basement stair - the Great Eagle 15W gives you 1,500 lumens and still dims. And if the fixture is shallow enough that a bulb shape will not fit inside it, the flat puck bulb exists for exactly that problem.

Most people arrive at this question the same way. A ceiling light stops working, they take the diffuser off expecting a screw thread, and instead there are two metal pins and a socket with no thread in it. Nothing in the kitchen drawer fits. The bulb aisle at the hardware store has one small peg of these, if it has any at all.

That is the GU24 base: two pins 24 mm apart - the number in the name is the pitch - pushed in and given a quarter turn to lock. It is the base that belonged to compact fluorescent ceiling fixtures, and every LED on this page is sold as the thing that replaces one of those: Great Eagle describes its bulb as replacing a CFL twist-in, the flat puck names the 18W CFL it stands in for, and Energetic calls its own bulb an alternative to outdated CFLs.

So the shopping problem is not really "which GU24 bulb is best". It is that you have a socket with maybe a dozen products made for it, written up thinly, in a fixture you did not choose - and you have two routes out. Buy the best bulb the format offers, or adapt the socket to an ordinary screw base and buy from the whole aisle. Both are legitimate. The second has strings attached.

02

How these were judged

This is a small, under-documented format, so the criteria are about what the listings are willing to state rather than about fine distinctions between them. Four things decide it.

  1. A published CRI. Color rendering is the specification that decides whether a room looks right, and it is the one GU24 listings skip most often. One of these publishes 90+, two publish 80+ and one publishes nothing at all. That order is most of the ranking, because a GU24 fixture is usually the only light in the room it is in - the argument for caring is in high-CRI LED bulbs.
  2. Dimming, stated explicitly. Most of this format is non-dimmable and a non-dimmable bulb on a dimmer flickers, buzzes, or will not switch off cleanly. Where a listing says dimmable we took it, and where it adds a condition - Great Eagle requires an LED-compatible dimmer - we have carried the condition through.
  3. An enclosed-fixture rating. GU24 sockets live in sealed domes and flush mounts far more often than in open fittings, and heat trapped in a sealed fixture is a well-documented cause of early LED failure. Only one of these bulbs publishes the rating. The mechanism is in the best LED bulbs for enclosed fixtures.
  4. Physical fit. An A19 shape is tall. A GU24 ceiling dome is often shallow, and the diffuser has to close. One pick here is a flat disc rather than a bulb for precisely that reason, and the adapter route adds height instead of saving it.

We did not install or measure these. Every figure on this page is the retailer listing's own, linked in the sources below, and where a listing publishes nothing we have written that rather than estimating it.

03

The picks

Feit Electric A19 GU24, 2700K - the pick. 800 lumens from 8.8 watts at 2700K, with a published 90+ CRI, full dimming, and an enclosed-fixture rating. That combination is ordinary in a normal screw-base bulb and genuinely rare in this base, and it is the reason this wins by a distance rather than narrowly. Feit publishes a 25,000-hour rated life and backs it with a five-year warranty, which is the longest here.
Who it is for: a bedroom, a hallway, a living room, a bathroom - any GU24 fixture that is the main light in a room people sit in. Who should skip it: anyone lighting a garage or a workshop from one fixture, where 800 lumens will not be enough.
Cons: 800 lm is a 60W equivalent and no more; 2700K is the only color this model comes in; and it is a four-pack, so a one-fixture job leaves you with three spares.

Great Eagle 15W GU24, 5000K - the most light that still dims. 1,500 lumens from 15 watts, UL listed, with a 220-degree beam angle published - which matters in a diffused fixture, because a narrow beam lights the diffuser rather than the room. It is the brightest pick here and the only bright one that dims.
Who it is for: a utility room, a garage, a basement stair, a laundry - somewhere you want to see clearly and nobody is relaxing. Who should skip it: any room you spend evenings in. 5000K daylight there reads as a service corridor, and the case against is in daylight bulbs.
Cons: no CRI published at all; 5000K is the only color; 15 watts is the most heat of any bulb here, which is a real consideration in a sealed dome; and the listing asks you to confirm compatibility before using it with a fan, a sensor or a dimmer.

Energetic 11W GU24, 5000K - the most light per watt. 1,400 lumens from 11 watts is about 127 lumens per watt, comfortably the most efficient thing on this page, and it publishes CRI 80+ and an ETL listing where many GU24 bulbs publish neither. If the fixture is on a plain switch and runs for hours, this is the sensible one.
Who it is for: a hallway, a stairwell or a basement on a plain switch, left on for long stretches. Who should skip it: anyone with a dimmer on the circuit, and anyone in California - the listing states it is not eligible for shipment there.
Cons: non-dimmable, with no workaround; no enclosed-fixture rating published, which a sealed GU24 dome wants; 5000K only; and the California shipping restriction, which is worth knowing before you fill a cart.

Flat GU24 puck bulb, 2700K - when an A19 will not fit. A 2.99 inch disc, wider than it is tall, putting out 800 lumens at 2700K with CRI 80+ and a UL damp listing. This is not a better bulb than the Feit; it is the shape that fits where the Feit does not, and in a shallow ceiling dome that is the only distinction that matters. The damp listing also makes it the pick for a porch ceiling or a closet.
Who it is for: a shallow flush mount, a jelly-jar fixture, a closet, a covered porch ceiling. Who should skip it: anyone with a dimmer, and anyone whose fixture has a narrow throat rather than a shallow dome - a wide disc fails that fixture the same way a tall bulb fails a shallow one.
Cons: non-dimmable, and the listing rules out timers and other controls as well; wider than an A19, so it trades one fit problem for another; two per pack at the highest price per bulb here.

GU24 to E26 adapter - the way out of the format. It twists into the GU24 socket and presents an ordinary E26 screw thread, so the entire bulb aisle opens up: 90+ CRI, 2200K, dim-to-warm, smart bulbs, whatever you want. This one publishes the numbers that matter - a 200W maximum, a 0 to 250V range, a 160C heat-resistant flame-retardant body, CE and RoHS certification - and comes six to a pack.
Who it is for: anyone who wants a specific bulb the format does not make, and anyone with GU24 fixtures in several rooms. Who should skip it: anyone with a shallow sealed dome, for the reason in the cons.
Cons: it adds about 1.7 inches of height, which a shallow diffuser may not clear; DiCUNO's own instructions say to keep it out of a small confined space so heat can escape, and a sealed flush mount is a small confined space; the stacked adapter and bulb put more weight on the socket than a bulb alone; and it puts a screw-base bulb into a fixture that was built for a pin base, so check your local code before you rely on it.

04

Bulb or adapter: how to decide

This is the real decision on the page, and it comes down to three questions in order.

Does the format sell what you want? If you want warm light at good CRI in an enclosed fixture, it does - that is the Feit, and you should stop there. Buying an adapter to get something the format already offers is adding a part for no reason.

Is there room above the socket? An adapter plus a bulb is taller than a bulb. If the diffuser is already close to the socket, the adapter route is over before it starts, and the flat puck is the direction to go instead.

Is the fixture sealed? If it is, you are stacking a heat-sensitive part inside a space the manufacturer tells you to avoid. It is not that this cannot work - it is that you should then insist on a bulb rated for enclosed fixtures, run well under the wattage ceiling, and accept that you have two components aging in there instead of one.

Answer those and the choice makes itself. The adapter is genuinely the right call for one specific case: you want a bulb this format does not make - a 2200K filament look, a dim-to-warm bulb, a smart bulb - and the fixture is open or deep enough to take the extra height. For everything else, buy the bulb made for the socket.

#ad Price as of November 2, 2026. How we earn

Twists into the GU24 socket and gives you an ordinary E26 screw thread - which opens the whole bulb aisle, at the cost of an inch and a half of height and a heat warning from the maker.

LumensNot applicable - it is a socket adapter
Color temperatureNot applicable

Power source200W maximum, 0-250V; 160C heat-resistant flame-retardant PBT
DimmableDepends entirely on the bulb you screw into it
Renter-safe methodTwists in and lifts out. Nothing wired, nothing altered.

What it gets right

  • Turns a dead-end base into a standard E26, so every bulb on this site becomes an option
  • 200W maximum and a 160C material rating published, which most adapters do not state
  • CE and RoHS certified per the listing
  • Six per pack, which suits a house with GU24 fixtures in several rooms

What it costs you

  • Adds about 1.7 in. of height, so a shallow dome may no longer close over it
  • The listing itself says to keep it out of a small confined space for heat dissipation - which is exactly what a sealed flush mount is
  • A stacked adapter and bulb hang heavier on the socket than a bulb alone
  • It defeats the reason the GU24 base exists, so check your local code before relying on it

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

+What is a GU24 bulb?

A bulb with two pins instead of a screw thread - 24 mm apart, which is where the 24 in the name comes from. It pushes into the socket and twists a quarter turn to lock, which is why it is sold as a twist-lock or 2-prong bulb. The base is the one used on ceiling fixtures that were built around compact fluorescent lamps, and every GU24 LED on this page is sold as the replacement for one of those - Great Eagle's listing says it replaces a CFL twist-in, and the flat puck bulb's listing names the 18W CFL it stands in for.

+Can I put a regular light bulb in a GU24 socket?

Not directly. A standard household bulb has an E26 screw thread and a GU24 socket has no thread at all, so there is nothing for it to screw into. The only way to use an ordinary bulb is a GU24-to-E26 adapter, which twists into the socket and presents a screw thread - and that comes with real caveats about height and heat, covered below.

+Is a GU24 to E26 adapter safe?

It is a listed, widely sold part, and the better ones publish the numbers you need: the adapter here states a 200W maximum, a 0 to 250V range and a 160C heat-resistant flame-retardant body. The caution is in the maker's own instructions, which say to keep it out of a small confined space so heat can escape. A sealed flush mount is a small confined space, so pair an adapter with a bulb rated for enclosed fixtures and well under the wattage ceiling, and check the fixture still closes.

+What is the difference between GU24 and GU10?

The pin spacing and the fixture. GU24 pins sit 24 mm apart and the base is used on flush mounts, vanity fixtures and ceiling domes. GU10 pins sit 10 mm apart and the base belongs to track heads and spotlights - the number in each name is the pitch in millimeters. They twist in the same way and will not interchange, and the full picture is in our guide to GU10 bulbs for track heads.

+Are GU24 LED bulbs dimmable?

Some are and most are not, so it is the first thing to check. Of the picks here the Feit and the Great Eagle both dim, and the Great Eagle's listing adds the condition that matters - the dimmer has to be LED-rated. The Energetic and the flat puck bulb are explicitly non-dimmable, and the puck's listing goes further and rules out timers and other controls as well.

+How bright a GU24 bulb can I get?

The brightest on this page publishes 1,500 lumens from 15 watts, which is a 100W-equivalent and about as far as the format goes for a household A19 shape. If you need more light than that from one GU24 socket, the honest answer is that you need a second light source rather than a brighter bulb - the arithmetic is in how many lumens a room needs.
