Specifications are the manufacturer or retailer published figures, compiled by hand. We have not measured them, and where a figure is not published we write "Not published" rather than guess.
01
Why this socket is different
An opener head is a small motor bolted to a ceiling, and every cycle shakes the bulb in its socket. That alone shortens the life of an ordinary bulb. But the failure that sends people searching is stranger: you change the bulb, and suddenly the remote only works from the driveway instead of the end of the street.
That is radio interference, and the opener makers document it. LiftMaster's product bulletin says plainly that some LED light bulbs have been known to cause interference issues with garage door openers, reducing the range of remote controls and wireless keyless entries - and then lists the specific bulb models it has tested and approved. Genie says the same thing in its FAQ, and its blog explains why: its openers work at 315 MHz and 390 MHz, and noisy bulb electronics sit close enough to matter.
So the shopping problem is narrow. You want a bulb built to be shaken, and one that is either made by an opener manufacturer or appears on an opener manufacturer's tested list.

How we chose
- Published vibration or shatter resistance. Genie publishes a figure - vibration and shatter resistant up to 5Gs. The others claim resistance in words without a number, which we report as written.
- Interference credentials. Best is a bulb from the opener maker. Next best is a bulb whose listing states FCC compliance aimed at minimizing RF interference. We treat both as claims, because only the opener makers test.
- Lumens, because garages are dark. The opener light is often the only light in the room when you arrive at night.
- Color temperature for the task. A garage is a workspace, so cooler light is defensible here in a way it is not in a living room.
- Published paperwork. A manufacturer page, a warranty and a real model number beat a listing with none of them.
| Bulb | Lumens | Color | Vibration claim | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Genie GLEDB2-R2 | 800 lm | 4000K | Vibration and shatter resistant up to 5Gs | 3 years |
| TORCHSTAR XL1A19 | 1,700 lm | 5000K | Vibration and impact resistant (no figure) | 2 years |
| TWOPWIN GA-01 | 1,500 lm | 6000K | Shatter resistant material (no figure) | 2 years |

The picks
Genie GLEDB2-R2 - the pick. An opener manufacturer's own bulb, published as vibration and shatter resistant up to 5Gs, damp location rated, with a three-year limited warranty and a real spec page. If your remote range has already dropped, this is the bulb that removes the bulb from the list of suspects.
Cons: 800 lumens is less than half the TORCHSTAR, so a two-car garage will still want another light; it is not dimmable; and Genie never publishes actual wattage, only the 60W equivalence.
TORCHSTAR opener LED - the brightest. 1,700 lumens at 5000K from 15 watts, in shatter-resistant material, with the listing stating FCC compliance to minimize RF interference. In a garage that doubles as a workshop, the extra 900 lumens over the Genie is the difference between finding the car and using the bench.
Cons: TORCHSTAR publishes no page for this model, so every figure comes from the listing; 5000K is harsh if the garage is attached to the house and the door is often open; no enclosed or damp rating is published.
TWOPWIN GA-01 - the cheap pair. 1,500 lumens for the least money here, in the right shatter-resistant format, rated 25,000 hours. For a second opener or a detached garage you visit twice a week, it is enough.
Cons: 6000K is the coldest light on this page and reads blue; the listing contradicts itself on damp use; and Amazon lists the brand as Generic with no manufacturer site behind it.
04
Fitting it without a callback
Check the manual for the wattage limit. It is model specific. One LiftMaster manual names a 100 watt maximum A19 incandescent; Genie says to use a heavy-duty rough service bulb within the manual's maximum. Do not assume the 60 watt figure people repeat online applies to your unit.
Test the remote from your normal distance afterwards. Not from under the door. Interference shows up as lost range, so test where you actually press the button - the end of the driveway, the corner of the street.
If range drops, check the tested list before buying again. LiftMaster's bulletin names specific approved models, with the caveat that it does not manufacture those bulbs and they can change without notice.
Do not expect these to light the room. An opener bulb is a courtesy light on a shaking motor. Pair it with proper overhead lighting and, if the garage is a walk-through, a motion sensor bulb at the door.

FAQ
Questions people actually ask
+Why do LED bulbs interfere with a garage door opener?
Openers listen for a remote on a radio frequency - Genie says its current openers run at 315 MHz and 390 MHz - and the switching electronics inside some LED bulbs radiate noise in that neighborhood. LiftMaster's own bulletin says some LED bulbs have been known to cause interference, reducing the range of remotes and keyless entries.
+What bulb should I put in a garage door opener?
One built for the job: shatter and vibration resistant, and sold as opener-compatible. Genie publishes a 5G vibration and shatter rating for its own bulb; LiftMaster publishes a list of tested bulb models in product bulletin P2019-19.
+What wattage bulb can a garage door opener take?
Follow the wattage in your opener's manual - it varies by model, and one LiftMaster manual specifies a 100 watt maximum A19 incandescent. Genie tells owners to use a heavy-duty rough service bulb within the manual's maximum. There is no universal figure.
+My remote range dropped after changing the bulb. What now?
Put the old bulb back in and test the remote from the same spot. If range returns, the new bulb is the interference source - swap it for one on the opener maker's tested list rather than moving the antenna.
+Can I use a normal LED bulb in a garage door opener?
You can, and two things may go wrong: the vibration of the door cycle shortens its life, and it may cut your remote's range. Both opener makers publish guidance precisely because ordinary bulbs often disappoint here.
+Are these bulbs dimmable?
The Genie is explicitly not dimmable, and the other two do not publish a dimming spec. That is fine for an opener, where the light is switched by the opener itself rather than a dimmer.
