01
What a socket fan is, and is not
A socket fan is a compact fan with an LED light in the middle that screws into an ordinary ceiling light socket. The remote runs the fan and the light; the wall switch just powers the socket. For a renter, or anyone without a fan-rated ceiling box, it is the only way to add a ceiling fan with no electrician.
The honest limit is size. These fans are 15 to 18 inches across, a fraction of a standard 52 inch ceiling fan. They make a breeze under the fixture; they do not move air round a whole room. The full-size alternative is in best ceiling fans with lights.

Cons: no manufacturer site found, so the specs come from the listing; speeds, wattage and weight not published.
Bell+Howell Socket Breeze - from a known brand. A 15.4 inch fan with a 1,000 lumen, 3500K light and a remote, screwing into an E26/E27 socket.
Cons: the smallest fan here; color fixed at 3500K on this listing; speeds and weight not published.

Cons: no color temperature published; the least documented of the three.
03
Before you screw one in
It needs a bare, downward socket. A socket fan hangs below the socket, so it suits a bare-bulb or open fixture - not the inside of a closed glass dome.
Check the fixture is secure. None of these listings publish a weight. A loose or wobbly ceiling fixture is not a good home for anything that spins.
Leave the wall switch on. The remote controls the fan and light only while the socket has power.
Other no-wiring ceiling options are compared in ceiling lights that need no wiring.

FAQ
Questions people actually ask
+What is a socket fan light?
A small ceiling fan with an LED light that screws into an existing light socket, usually run by a remote. There is no fan box and no wiring.
+Are socket fans as good as ceiling fans?
No - they are much smaller. The picks here are 15.4 to 18 inches across, against 52 inches for a typical bedroom ceiling fan such as the Hunter Minimus. They move some air; they do not cool a room the same way.
+How bright are socket fan lights?
The picks publish 1,000 to 2,000 lumens. The OSTIVE's 2,000 lumens is enough to light a small bedroom on its own.
+Can renters use a socket fan?
Yes - it screws into the existing socket and unscrews at move-out. Check that the fixture is firmly fixed to the ceiling, because none of these listings publish a weight.
+How does a socket fan work with the wall switch?
The wall switch powers the socket, so it has to stay on. The remote then controls the fan and the light.
